SHaleash Williams
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Norfolk State University in 2006, and since that
time, my professional journey has been rooted in a deep commitment to child welfare, family stability,
and the advancement of social work education. I began my career serving in Adult Protective Services,
Foster Care, Child Protective Services, and Family Preservation, where I developed a strong clinical
foundation in assessment, crisis intervention, case management, and systems-based practice.
Over the years, I transitioned into leadership and currently serve as the Family Services Supervisor for
Education & Professional Development with the Richmond Department of Social Services. In this role, I
oversee professional development initiatives and serve as a preceptor for BSW and MSW students from
academic institutions both within and beyond the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am passionate about
cultivating competent, ethical, and reflective practitioners who are prepared to meet the complex needs
of children and families within diverse communities.
My professional experience spans both public and private sectors, equipping me with the ability to work
effectively and independently with individuals and families across varied cultural, ethnic, socio-
economic, and educational backgrounds. I utilize advanced social work methodologies grounded in
trauma-informed care, strengths-based practice, and systems theory even when engaging with the most
complex and high-risk cases.
Teaching and supervision are extensions of my practice. I strive to model critical thinking, ethical
decision-making, and cultural humility for students entering the profession. My approach to leadership
and education is guided by organization, integrity, intellectual rigor, and an unwavering passion for
service. I believe that fostering a positive, collaborative work and learning environment is essential to
building the next generation of social workers who are prepared not only to serve, but to lead.
